Zebrasoma flavescens Yellow Tang Bennett, 1828
Zebrasoma flavescens is overall bright yellow, but color intensity can vary from one individual to another. Caudal peduncle spine is white. Obtains a maximum size of 20 cm (7.9 in) TL. May be found solitary or in small groups. Distribution: Pacific. Inhabits lagoons and seaward reefs at depths of 2 - 46 m (6.6 - 150.9 ft). One of the more common species in the marine hobby. Its bright yellow color makes it a very attractive addition to any marine aquarium. Can be very aggressive, especially towards other tangs. Keep only one, except in larger tanks. Usually does not bother sessile invertebrates, but if underfed may nip at some corals. Herbivore. In the wild, feeds primarily on filamentous algae. In the aquarium, feed 3 times a day. Must be fed a good herbivore diet or its bright color will quickly fade. Pelagic Spawner. Not known to have been successfully bred in captivity. Like many tangs is prone to marine ich.
