Obtains a maximum size of 45 cm (17.7 in) TL. Usually found solitary.

Distribution: Western Pacific: Ryukyu Islands to Australia. Occurrence of this species in the Indian Ocean is doubtful. Inhabits lagoons and seaward reefs at depths of 0 - 20 m (0.0 - 65.6 ft).

Needs plenty of unobstructed swimming room and hiding places. Not known to be aggressive. Will eat many sessile invertebrates.

Omnivore. In the wild, feeds primarily on algae, jellyfish and zooplankton. In the aquarium, feed 3 times a day. Feed a variety of foods, including marine algae and meaty foods that are appropriately sized for the individual.
